Outline:
Bring a favourite piece(s) of clothing and learn ways of prolonging it’s use and enjoyment, using simple techniques with cloth and stitch that will transform your garment. This workshop embraces the Japanese ethic of Boro – the art of repair and restoration of worn garments and other textiles. to add beauty to them and to extend their lifetime. The western world is now embracing ideas of repair and visible mending – making these part of the personality of the garment, making it distinct and personal.
Sadly the world wide textile industry is a major contributor to waste and pollution. Fast fashion has added to this waste and the environmental destruction that it causes.
Anne is offering a practical way to bring new life back into your well loved, useful and beautiful garments so they do not just become waste but rather they can enjoy a whole new season of being beautiful, rewarding parts of your wardrobe. This class is a chance to play and experiment with restoring your wardrobe so that items do not need to be sent to the landfill. We can all help to reduce the impact of textile waste by making small changes and by making choices to extend the lives of our clothes.
Anne will bring examples of her own revamping projects to inspire you and to help guide you. You will see how doing visible mending can be a creative act of making beauty that is functional, how repairs can enhance a standard piece of clothing – making it into your own special statement piece.
