Trish will be in the gallery as part of the group of tapestry weavers who have contributed to the Tapestry Touring International Exhibition – ‘Verve’. Trish will share the back story about the group of British and New Zealand weavers – how they came together and what they have achieved over the time of their association.

There is a page up on the website about the exhibition that Trish will be guiding us through: https://fromoutofthebluestudiogallery.com/verve-a-tapestry-touring-international-exhibition-21st-may-29th-june-2026/

Trish is the co-ordinator for the New Zealand leg of this travelling exhibition and she is also offering an interndiate level tapestry workshop for weavers who would like to expand their skill set.

We were privileged to host some of Trish’s woven tapestries at the very start of our exhibiting here at ‘from out of the blue studio gallery’, back in July and August 2020. The exhibition was called ‘Woven – Tapestries and Treasures’. So a few notes about Trish and a few images from that time are attached here to give you all a bit of background.

I live and work in Wellington, New Zealand, and have been weaving tapestries for over 30 years.  Early in my weaving career, I worked in collaboration with leading NZ Artists, but from the mid-1990s, after attending a module at West Dean College, UK, I have developed my own style.  I have held successful solo exhibitions in Wellington, and have tapestries in private collections in the USA, Japan, UK and New Zealand.  I teach tapestry weaving, and have established a very successful weaving group which meets regularly in Wellington.  I am the convenor of New Zealand’s Tapestry Network, a member of the Professional Weavers Network of NZ, the American Tapestry Alliance and British Tapestry Group.  I exhibit regularly in group exhibitions in New Zealand and internationally, have written articles for weaving magazines, and have curated an online exhibition of work by Maximo Laura for the American Tapestry Alliance.

In designing my tapestries, I use photographs, paintings, collages, and prints to convey a sense of light and atmosphere. My inspiration comes from the human form and face, ancient mythology, legend and the art of the Pre-Raphaelites. Working to convey an ethereal quality, I hope that viewers will read a personal meaning into my tapestries, discovering ideas or attributes for themselves. I try to convey human emotions and experiences through my work, by bringing together the authenticity of tradition and the vitality of contemporary to produce a contemplative tranquility.
