Every year Ōpunakē comes to life when the weather settles and the beaches become irresistible. We celebrate this part of the year with an annual exhibition called The Beach. For 2025 we have invited three artists to come together and create works for The Beach. These artists are from Auckland and Northland. We have had the pleasure of tracey sullivan as an artist in Residence but Ailie and Alysn are both new to the gallery. So it is with much excitement and anticipation we have assembled their works into an amazing exhibition. The Artists’ Brief was:

Works for this Exhibition should address some aspect of The Beach – it can be ocean, river or lakeside beaches. The works would reflect your connection to a beach or beaches as part of your creative muse, your lifestyle, your environment or any other aspect of a beach that resonates with you on a personal level.
