Journeys – Our Way. The Kapiti Extensions Group Exhibition

Kapiti Creatives – Members of Association of NZ Embroiderer’ Guilds.

Seventeen textile fanatics meet monthly in Waikanae to share, challenge, inspire and work separately and together to create ‘Art’ in its wider sense. Driven by our love of fabric, threads, stitch, colour, texture and any other techniques that inspire – we use a mix of all mediums – we create totally different pieces, learning from each other’s efforts and outcomes. This provides us with constant practise and learning at each month’s gathering.

Journeys- Our Way displays the individual diversities, preferences and similarities of those members of our group.

We hope our works intrigue and inspire other artists.

The Group Challenge that produced the art works in Journeys – Our Way.

Like most, if not all, “stitch” groups, we have varying degrees of enthusiasm when faced with “the challenge”.

This year only one limitation was stipulated, to make a background using neutral-coloured fabrics as a collage. The results showed that not all of us quite got the point – one piece easy to pick!! However, each artist applied and presented their own design to overlay their interpretation of the required background. Using stitch, paint, wire, and whatever other stash treasures came to hand, original pieces of work were created – a challenge in more senses than one.
