DR CAROLE M. SHEPHEARD, ONZM.

Dr Carole Shepheard ONZM

Carole Shepheard’s art production is remarkable both for its range, and its multiple levels of meaning. Characteristically, symbolism is interwoven with an exploration of the sensuous potential of materials. Carole’s practice ranges over a wide variety of media from printmaking, and painting through to large and small 3D expressions. Much of her work explores a re-interpretation of historical and cultural objects.

‘Surface quality has always been important to the way I work. I particularly enjoy the nature of materials, their in-built, sometimes unalterable qualities. In this way, the materials have a say in how they behave, how they are used and what effects can be achieved.’ – Carole Shepheard

As a Professor Emeritus of Fine Arts at Auckland University, Carole brings to any art activity a lifetime of deeply thought knowledge and experience, enriching all who engage with her.
