Plant Based Paper Making

Description: Learn how to prepare plant material from your own garden or from wild foraging to use to create art papers.

Viv will take you round her organic garden and show you how to identify, collect and prepare materials that can be converted into pulp for paper making. Examples of these materials will then be used to create hand cast paper sheets. Good sets of working notes will be supplied for later reference.

At the end of the workshop the participants will have learned how to identify possible paper making material as well as how and when to process it.

As well there will be a mixture of pulp batches for making paper sheets with which the participants will take home to dry.

Viv Davy has been exploring the use of her own grown plant materials for all kinds of textile practices including paper-making. It is an integral part of her commitment to reducing the environmental impact of her art practice. Viv’s studio gallery where the workshop is hosted has a core vision of encouraging other textile artists to think of this aspect of their practices.
