cut/uncut  – Jeanette Verster ( Taranaki Arts Trail Season). 23rd October – 1st December.

This year the gallery is hosting Jeanette Verster over the festival and arts trail season. Always special and beautiful Jeanette’s carefully folded and stitched, lovingly dyed and layered fibre works are captivating in their distilled complexity. The realisation of concepts takes varied forms but there is always a distinctive mark of this maker’s hand in the work – setting it aside in its own special place. We are always privileged to be able to host Jeanette’s exhibitions and I’m sure this one will be a treat too. Fingers crossed that the planets will align for Jeanette to be able to be in residence as well over this period. Jeanette’s statement about this new body of work:

My textile work explores the tension between transformation and continuity, using folding as both a method and a metaphor. In cut/uncut, fabric and paper are manipulated to create structured forms that reveal hidden layers, shifting between precision and fluidity. The act of cutting disrupts, while folding preserves—together, they speak to the duality of fragmentation and wholeness. This interplay reflects the delicate balance between control and release, permanence and change, inviting the viewer to consider what is altered, what remains, and what is merely waiting to unfold.
