Calls for Entry for The Surface Design Association – Annual Regional New Zealand Group Exhibition.

Gallery: ‘from out of the blue studio gallery’ Opunake, Taranaki.

Invitational exhibition of members of the SDA.

This invitation is extended to all current and new members of The SDA.

If you currently don’t belong to the Surface Design Association there is at present a special offer of 10% discount for new members from New Zealand. I can facilitate your signing up and explain anything you need to know about what The SDA offers to members.

The Theme: Aotearoa – Land of the Long White Cloud.

  • What does it mean to be an island nation?
  • How are we influenced by our geography and our location – surrounded by vast bodies of sea water?
  • Does this permeate our psyche as makers?
  • How do you acknowledge this reality in your practice?

Create a work or works that explore(s) and perhaps develops your engagement with the reality of being on an island or in an island nation.

The curator will review all entries submitted. Selected artists will be notified by 05/01/2022

PLEASE NOTE THE DEADLINE 01/01/2022


1st January 2022. On or before this date – digital image of work(s) being submitted must be received by email to viv@blacknosugar.com. Please also include the entry form below. 

05/01/2022. On or before this date notification of acceptance will be emailed.

15/01/ 2022. On or before this date accepted works must arrive at

‘from out of the blue studio gallery’.

28th February 2022. All unsold works must be collected from the gallery unless other arrangements have been made.

1st March 2022. All sales payments will be made to the artist’s designated bank accounts.

  • Story behind the work (no more than 100 words)
  • Price. Please read gallery info page for pricing instructions. 
  • Any special care instructions for the work
