Free – Community Drop In.
What clothes do you have that you love but need mending or do not fit? Whether you are a sewer/creator or not Anne can help you transform, mend, re-purpose or re-vamp your favourite textiles.
Come and chat, work on your own projects or get help.
Anne’s Philosophy behind her love of up-cycling garments and household linens is to encourage the reduction of personal landfill use.
The textile industry and disposing of used textiles is a major contributor to world-wide pollution and a great deal of it is toxic waste which is dumped in marginalised communities with no care for the effects it has on the people who live there. Most of these people and communities have no voice, no one to challenge the dumping.
Artificial and synthetic textiles have a huge part to play in this, as do chemical dyes. If everyone made a conscious decision to only use products made from natural materials, a lot would be gained from the reduction of demand for synthetics. Of course this is an expensive process and simply not an option for many people. But a way around this is to buy second hand, another way of circulating clothing and household linens.
As second hand/op-shops become more popular, prices increase so the ability to re-cycle your own clothes is more appealing.
You can come and watch Anne at work, see some of her finished or in-process projects , discuss your dreams with her and gather a head full of inspiration and ideas.
