Alice Cowdrey

Taranaki Needle Felt Artist

Alice is a Taranaki-based needle felter who also incorporates paper mache, dried flowers, knitting and stitching into her work. Alice looks to nature, animals and folk art for inspiration and likes to tell stories which incorporate her Eastern European ancestry, paganism, myth and spirituality. Much of her work features the Raven- a symbol of transformation, rebirth and magic. She also likes to explore ideas around death and what might exist outside our material world.

Needle felting is a dry felting technique where a barbed needle is used to repeatedly stab wool fibres.

Here are some examples of Alice’s works.
